世界は狭くなり、その上で暮らす誰もが、地上はグローバルなものと知るようになりました。ここに地の果てなどはなく、どんな道も、果てではつながってループをなすことを今、誰もが実感しています。
本格ミステリーは19世紀なかばに生まれ、大西洋をはさんで、英米の才能たちが創作のボールを投げ合うことで、発展させてきました。20世紀なかば、アメリカのある美術家が知的ゲームであれと鋭い提案をすることで、ジャンルはたちまち黄金の絶頂期を迎え、同時に、パーティ終了の日の存在も知りました。
間髪を入れず、アメリカにハリウッドが台頭し、緻密な論理思考という知性を必要としない冒険への興奮を知らしめることで、巨大な王国を築きます。本格は、太平洋を越えて西へと亡命、そして今、時代は日本と、華文文化圏との創作キャッチボールの時代に入ろうとしています。
われわれは、アングロサクソンのパーティが何故終わったかを知っています。したがって、終わらせないこともできるはずです。
今後本格の影響圏は、タイランドに、インドに、イタリアに、フランスにと余波を広げていき、やがてイギリスにと凱旋するでしょう。その日、ミステリーは「Honkaku」と名を変えており、きらびやかなアジア土産を大量に携えるでしょう。そして大西洋、太平洋、大陸と、西廻りの長い旅を終えるのです。
こういう新時代の扉の前に立つわれわれは、北京の王府井に、台北の西門町に、東京、新宿のサザンテラスにと定点観測のカメラを置いて、各都市におけるミステリーの状況を報告し合いたいと考えています。やがてカメラを、パリに、ニューヨークにと広げることができれば、球上の広範囲で溶け合い、ひとつになりながら生育していく本格ミステリーの変化や移動、そして増体する姿が、気象図の変動のように把握できるはずです。このサイトは、それを見届ける雄大な目になりたいと考えています。
しかしわれわれは、気象予報士ではありません。本格ミステリーを創り、世に送り出し、またそれを受け取って読む愉しみをこそ、第一に思う者たちです。
本格ミステリーの知的刺激、そして悦びの前に、国境は消滅し、送り手、受け手の垣根も意味を失い、イデオロギーの相違さえも、春の名残雪のように今溶け去ろうとしています。
このサイトは、そういう新時代を生きるあなたへの、ささやかな一枚の招待状なのです。
The world is now a smaller place than it used to be. “Global” has become the name we can call ourselves as well as much of what is around us. Long gone are myths about the ends of the earth, for we know now that every road, long or short, makes its way back to where it began.
In the mid-19th century, detective fiction was born. It grew into something like a popular sport among its European players, who passed the ball across the Atlantic. A century later, an American art critic proposed that the literary genre be enjoyed as an intellectual game. It lossomed in its golden age, and subsequently met its demise.
This was due in part to the rise of the Hollywood empire, subjecting its people to graphics full of stimulating adventures, lacking the intricacies of logical plotlines. Honkaku was exiled far west, across the Pacific. Its tradition is now being observed in Japan and among its neighboring Asian countries.
We know why the game was called off in the West. But we also know how to get it started again.
“Honkaku” will exert its influence across Thailand, India, Italy, France, and eventually make a triumphant return to England. On that day, it shall be knighted with the title “Honkaku,” a souvenir from one of its Asian brothers. After crossing the Atlantic, the Pacific, and the continent of Asia, this movement will arrive back in Europe and conclude its journey across the world.
We stand before the new age with a mission. On the Wangfujing Cathedral of Beijing, on Ximending of Taipei, on Shinjuku Southern Terrace in Tokyo, and eventually on the streets of Paris and New York too, we want to position “weather cameras,” reporting on updates of this global Honkaku movement.
From our many cameras, we can watch Honkaku, like a current, grow and move as it fuses into one. We hope this website will act like the hub for a great weather report.
However, we are not weather forecasters. We come together for the simple joys of creating, reading, and sharing Honkaku mystery. Our passion for stimulating intellect will cause boundaries to fade and walls between writer and reader to crumble. Ideological antagonism will melt away, like snow in the spring.
